Sumo Robot TMR 3kg Category

Robotics

This project marked a pivotal point early in my engineering path it was my first hands-on experience with system integration and the beginning of my passion for mechatronics. In collaboration with my teammate, Abraham Pérez, we developed a 3 kg Sumo robot from scratch to compete in the Mexican Robotics Tournament (Torneo Mexicano de Robótica, TMR).

I was fully responsible for the mechanical design and system integration of the robot, ensuring all components worked together seamlessly. Additionally, I contributed to the electrical design and programming alongside Abraham. We designed a custom drivetrain, molded our own silicone wheels for enhanced traction, and powered the robot with brushless motors and a lithium battery for maximum efficiency.

To detect opponents and avoid leaving the arena, we implemented infrared sensors and QR code sensors underneath. We soldered all the electronics ourselves and programmed the robot's control logic for competitive performance.

Our robot performed exceptionally and earned us a fourth-place finish at the national competition an experience that solidified my passion for robotics and engineering.
